You know what to do, but…

In the last article, we talked about the first part of making a decision: figuring out what to do. Now we dive into part two: doing it.

In a perfect world, once you’ve made your decision, you’ll see a clear path forward and start moving towards this new future. The reality is, that path can be hard to find. And even then, it’s often blocked and it’s usually steep.

Side note: this is why I recommend working with a coach for 3-6 months, rather than just a single session. Book a call today to see if I’m the right coach for you!

First, finding the trailhead. After you’ve made your decision and know which path to take, you’ll need directions to get there. Maybe you want to start a custom t-shirt business – what will it take to get off the ground? (probably a website, some design software, a screen-printing machine, etc.) Since you’re still in the “unknown unknowns” territory, do some solid research here. Best case: connect with someone who’s walked the path ahead of you!

Next, clear the obstacles. Something will inevitably get in your way. Could be something concrete – startup costs, a time investment, a gap in your skillset – or something less tangible, like a mindset, habit or routine. A good coach has the tools to help you break through any of these barriers.

Then, put in the work! Any big decision takes commitment and grit to follow through on, and having a coach to keep you accountable to your goals is the difference between talking about your plans and making them happen. As excited as you are right now, just starting out, discipline carries you through. Just like a sports coach knows how to push the team when they’re tired, a decision coach keeps you progressing when that initial excitement wears off.

Plenty of people quit. They know they should do something, but it’s hard, so they settle for less and get frustrated. If you’re serious about following through, get a coach.
